Adjacent to the main hotel West Mountain is where you can find the easiest slopes in Rusutsu. As the smallest of Rusutsu’s three mountains, at 715 metres above sea level, West is more suited to the beginner and intermediate skiers. West Quad No. 1 accesses the White Lover slope, a gentle green perfect for beginners practicing their snowplough turns. The ski school also operates a magic carpet for those taking lessons.
West Mountain does also provide advanced terrain for those keen to stay close to the hotel. Giant and Dynamic provide some of the best steep groomed terrain available in the ski area, ideal for long carved turns. Natural is a patrolled tree skiing area that is accessed by the West Tiger Pair. This is an excellent spot for the more advanced skiers to enjoy skiing amongst the trees in some of the deepest powder on the mountain. Quick lap times on the West Tiger Pair mean you can make the most of the powder.
The Freedom Park is to found off West Quad No. 1. The terrain park changes shape throughout the season as the park staff keep adding and updating. But you are always sure to find a fantastic mixture of boxes, rails and kickers of all sizes.
West Gondola provides access to the viewpoint on top of West Mountain. On clear days it is possible to get a beautiful view of Mt. Yotei to the north and of the whole resort to the south. Unfortunately the gondola is only open on weekends throughout most of the season.
Horn Cafeteria is the main restaurant at the base of West Mountain and serves traditional Japanese cuisine. Cricket Bar and Daniel Street provide alternative catering options for those keen for a more western style of lunch.
West Mountain is the only area open for night skiing.
East No. 1 Gondola provides access to East Mountain from West Mountain. It takes roughly 8 minutes in the gondola to reach East Mountain base. When high winds prevent the running of the Gondola the resort runs a shuttle bus from the North Entrance of the Hotel.
